In an effort to increase voter participation in municipal elections, the NC General Assembly passed SL 2023-44, to delay the Mills River Council election one year aligning future elections with state and federal elections. This extends the terms of current Council members one-year with terms for Council members Austin and Young ending in 2024 and terms for Mayor Gonce, Council members Goode and Cantrell now ending in 2025.
